While most series at the time followed typical shounen troupes in order to be popular, ‘Cardcaptor Sakura’ stood out for taking risks and defying the usual conventions. ‘Cardcaptor Sakura’ is a long-running anime from the 1990s that was probably one of the first series of the mahou shoujo genre. He then uses his own abilities to protect the human world from evil demonic forces. Instead of returning to his father and pursuing his dream of conquering the human world, Rim decides to stay at home and train as an exorcist. But when one day he is attacked by several demons, he learns that he is the son of Satan. For a long time he believed that he was nothing more than an ordinary schoolboy. ‘Blue Exorcist’ tells the story of this demon child who grows up to become Rin Okumura in the real world. To achieve this, he decides to send his own son to the human world in hopes that once he grows up, he can take over the world with his supernatural abilities. Satan, ruler of the demon world, fails to find anyone worthy of his possession, but he still wants to rule the human world. Blue Exorcist (2011-)ĭemons live in an entirely different realm, the Gehena, making it impossible for them to travel into the human realm unless they possess someone there. While there’s a bit of romance in the series, its unique take on a sporting story is truly inspirational. It shows all the hardships and struggles these girls have to go through to make something of their baseball career and eventually reach the top. It centers on an all-girls baseball team led by a star pitcher named Ryo Hayakawa. It was released around the same time as Slam Dunk and that’s probably why it never became very popular. ‘Princess Nine’ is a sports anime you’ve probably never heard of. The art style and quality are noticeably dated, but everything else, including the English dubbing, feels timeless.

Even though this movie is almost 2 decades old, it’s still as good as some of the critically acclaimed contemporary anime. But his road to rehabilitation isn’t going as smoothly as he thinks. He then goes through a whole process of reconditioning and training to be ready for battle again. ‘Jin Roh’ is an extremely moving anime film that tells the story of a colonel who is traumatized after watching a young girl blow herself up in a suicide bombing.
